My thoughts on Full Frontal Feminism

Reading this chapter of the book was kind of hard for me, I believe women should have every right a man has women are beautiful and amazing no matter how they look or who they are but then again I dont think like most men.  Feminism is a very negitive word and got to be that way because of feminist like Jessica Valenti.  I know i know hold on she is great to go out and right a book like this and bring awarness to young women but if you read her book perticularly this chapter you can see she is not out for equal rights she wants her rights and take away everyone elses too.  In this chapter she talks about her right to use birth control and get abortions which i totally agree with where I draw the line is when she speaks about taking all blame away from women when they report being raped.  Yes if it happen and she was trully rape take the sob who did cut his nuts off then kill him, but when you start agruing that all rape cases should be treated equle and we should take away the deffendent right to show the women accusing him may not be telling the truth by attaking her character or asking why she is wearing a two inch mini skrit in an club rubbing her crouch all over they guy and then the next morning crys rape thats horriable.  We all have the right to due process amd a fair trial even if that means hurting some ones feeling. She is totally closed minded and needs to respect and protect the rights of everyone that are granted us by the constitution not just fight for her rights why she denies everyone else theres.  Thats why fiminism get a bad name.

Tupac V.S Huey

Looking throughout history there have been many great black leaders some of them took to a public stage to let their voice be heard and some stayed behind the senses and let their actions bring hope to the black community.  Harriet Tubman’s Underground Railroad is an example of a person’s action speaking for her and giving hope to her people where as Martian Luther King Jr.’s I have a dream speech is an example of taking the stage and letting his words inspire millions.  Huey P. Newton did most of his work from behind the senses whereas Tupac had one of the greatest stages of all time for inspiring the people.  Despite their differences in how they went about leading the black community they lead extremely similar lives. There has always been a common thread the American jeremiad, according to about.com "The American jeremiad is a rhetoric of indignation, expressing deep dissatisfaction and urgently challenging the nation to reform. The term jeremiad, meaning a lamentation or doleful complaint, derives from the biblical prophet, Jeremiah . . .. Although Jeremiah denounced Israel's wickedness and foresaw tribulation in the near-term, he also looked forward to the nation's repentance and restoration in a future golden age.” Throughout the American history this has been the cry of the black community, great leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X , Huey Newton, and Tupac have used this to call for the end of black oppression.

The similarities between Huey P. Newton and Tupac and their effect on black America, despite apparent hypocrisy.

Tupac and Huey lead similar lives in  the way they were both strongly tied to the black panther party.  Huey was the co-founder and minister of defence of pathers, while Tupac was born into the panthers.  Both men made it their lifes work to help the black community and usher in a new way of life.  Both men had several run-ins with the law, Huey was charged with the murder of a police officer, the murder of a prostitute, and embezzling founds from the black panthers education and nutrition programs.  Tupac was areested with two other men  on charges that they forcibly sodomized and sexually abused a young woman who they clamied was a groupie.  The arrest came less than three weeks after Shakur was arrested for allegedly shooting two off-duty police officers after a traffic argument in Atlanta.  Tupac also knew of his power to reach young black men with his lyrics and statments so by bringing his message against the east coast and against the crips he seemed to be authorizing for lack of a bettre word black on black crime after stating several times in his lyrics this needs to change.  After their deaths both Tupac and Huey have found their place among great black american leaders.  Given some of the expamples of questionable behavor should these two men be placed alongside the likes of Martain Luther King Jr and Malcom X?

Pathos of Garth Books the Dance

Looking back on the memory of the dance we shared beneath the stars above for a moment all the world was right how could I have known you would ever say good bye and I Im glad i didnt know the way it all would end the way it all would go.  Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain but i would have had to miss the dance. The song is a deep and emotional look at the way one feels after having a love one pass.  In my opinion the emotion Mr. Brooks is trying to get from these line is the feeling we all get when we think about if we could have time back with our loved ones how we might change somethings we may have said or done.  This song was played at a close friends wake, and all i could think about is if I could hae just a moment back with him I could let him know how I felt and tell him everything I needed to.  Unfortunatly we dont get that moment to make things know so we should always let our loved ones know everychance we get that we loved them and how we feel, tomorrow is not promised to any of us so we need to take advatage of the time we have.   I think we can all share the feeling of regret when we lose somebody close to us.  I think this song is the perfect song to be played at funurals or wakes.

Thoughts on ad

“Sex sells”, is an expression we have all heard at one time or another in our life.  What started out as a simple observation has now indeed become the golden rule for ad executives everywhere.  Another expression we are all aware of is “truth in advertising”, what sounds like an ethical term for advertising agencies is actually a law.  The law states that a company cannot lie to the public about their product or make promises their product cannot keep.  One huge loop hole in this law however is the power of suggestion.  Welcome to the golden age of sexually suggestive advertising.  Ever where you look you can see ads objectifying men and women alike, making them out to be nothing more than sexual objects or for lack of a better word whores.  Guess has used this style of advertisement as good if not better than any other company in the world to reach their target demographic of rich white young teen girls.
In one specific ad Paris Hilton is sitting in a restaurant wearing a pink choker a thin denim jacket covering a pink bikini top.  She holding one end of a pencil in her hand and the other end in her mouth; her head slightly turned to the side with a look of come and get it in her eyes.  On the table in front of her sits a glass of pink lemonade, a notebook and in her arm she is cradling a dog.  The dog is wearing a short sleeve button up shirt with an eggs and bacon design; on his front paws he is wearing yellow sneakers.  That is what is technically going on in ad, but there is a hidden suggestion in the ad.  The suggestion being wear Guess clothing and release you inhibitions like just like Paris.  Given her fame and life style it is safe to assume who Guess is targeting with these ads.
Young rich teenage girls across the county seem to look up to Paris as a role model in spite of her less than stellar moral fiber.  Miss. Hilton has had more than her share of bad publicity.  We are all aware of her infamous sex tape “One night in Paris”, but even so she is still looked up to by teens all around the country, even other young celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus have followed in her footsteps because she embodies the spirit of the Me Generation.   As such Guess’s ad is not objectifying Paris; it is using the persona people already have of her and using that to sell their clothes.  Even though Guess is not objectifying Miss. Hilton is this ad they are Objectifying young women.
In this Me Generation we as a whole find ourselves in different but similar circumstances than the generation before us.  We are trying to free ourselves of the majority way of thinking.   We are trying to determine what is best for us, what is cool, and what is right.  We are shooting for individuality but falling well short.  We think that we are your own person and we decide how we should live our life but unfortunately it is not the case.  We are pushing so hard to get away from our parents views on life that we are not taking the time to discover are own we are just being manipulated by the media.   A perfect example of this is advertisements weather it is on T.V or billboards.  I hated to admit this to myself then I took out my iphone and couldn’t deny it anymore the media plays a big factor in to what we think is cool.  It wouldn’t be so bad if it was just material things we could buy that they were pushing on us but it’s not.  They are telling us what is and what isn’t sexy.  This is not as big of a deal to a guy, but for a woman it can be deadly.  Magazines, television, radio and even posters are telling our young women there not sexy or they are not good enough.  They are promoting women like Paris Hilton as being sex and cool.  We see this every day and we buy in to it.  You would never see me in an ad for anything except maybe a before picture in a Jenny Craig ad.  Because I’m not good enough, I’m too old and too fat, but according to Banana Republic if I wear one of their shirts women will want me.  And that’s what Guess is doing with this ad they are telling young women to wear there cloths and men will see you as they do Paris.

Gen Me thoughts

Reading this thus far is like looking into the past and seeing how most of my friends were raised.  I remember spending the night at my friends’ houses and being astonished on how they would talk to their parents.  I remember thinking it was funny in class when they disrespected the teachers, but i felt embarrassed when they would yell at their parents.  It seemed as if they had complete control on how the home was run.  I couldn’t understand how a parent could let this happen.  When my friends spent the night at my house they were different kids.  They were always respectful to my family and seem to be on their best behavior when they came over.  I remember asking my best friend at the time why he seemed to have more respect for my parents then he did his own.  He explained to me that his parents never corrected or punished him for doing something wrong.  I remember thinking that must be the life.  I got spanked if i even thought of doing something wrong, and if i ever dreamed of talking disrespectful to my parents i would have gotten slap a crossed the room.  Even with the freedom my friends had at their own homes for some reason they always wanted to spend the night at my house.  We, me and Matt my bff lol, used to talk about why he never seemed to want to go home.  He told me that living at his house was like staying at a friend’s house all the time were as my house seemed like a home because there was order and a very distinct sense of who was the parent and who was the child in my house.  As we grew up most of my friends who didn’t have order in their home went on to find that order elsewhere.  They ended up in the military or in gangs where order rains supreme and there is no questioning authority.  It’s as if they had spent most of their life looking for that order.  I guess if we thought about it we could say that the more we fight against the natural order of things the more we need it.

Josh Mitchell's biography

Hello everyone my name is Josh Mitchell, I was born in 1977 and spent the first eight years of my life in the south end of Saint Joseph.  At the young age of 8 we moved to Connecticut only to move back again in 2000.  I served my country in the Navy for 4 years which at the time was the hardest thing I have ever done.  I am now a single father of a 3 year old little boy and can honestly say the time spent in the Navy was a vacation compared to everyday life now.  In my past I have had a lot of struggles with reading and writing because of a nasty little thing called Dyslexia.  For those of you who do not know Dyslexia is a learning disability that effects your perception of certain letters and numbers (i.e. I see p's as q's and b's as d's) it’s like looking at them backwards.  I have managed to control and overcome this disability for the most part.  As a reader I am slower than most but I feel I make up for this with the ability to comprehend better.  As a writer I try to find a source of inspiration for what I am writing I feel I write with a lot of emotion.  I believe my strengths when it comes to reading and writing is finding a connection between me and what I’m reading or writing.  I try and put myself in the middle of it and start from there. I feel my weakness is that I have to spend more time on projects than most.   I am always excited when it comes to reading and writing for the challenges that come along with each new exercise.
